It's a long way from here.

Looking out my window this morning at the winter sunrise over the gray of concrete has me in a wistful mood. This time of year brings thoughts of spring, and I have been spending quite a bit of idle time planning the first camping trips of the coming season in the winter morning ours. N and I have decided not to take a large chunk of vacation time this year in favor of spreading it out and taking many extended weekend trips.I could not be happier at the prospect of the many 4 and five day weekends ahead spent in the woods.

Some early thoughts on locations: Clarence Fahnestock State Park, Woodland Valley in the Catskills, a possible southern sojourn to Assateague National Seashore, hopefully a late March trip back to Delaware Water Gap.

I'm currently reading Bill Bryson's A Walk in The Woods to keep my head out there until we can make it up the Hudson. In the meantime I'm looking back at last years Catskills Trip to Devil's Tombstone Campground and short but difficult hike on Devil's path up Hunter Mountain. Info on our hike can be found here Hunter Mountain via Notch Lake Trail .

And a few of my favorite photos...
